Schools in Wales Win Celebrating RE March 2011 Books@Press Competition
The national Books@Press Competition for Celebrating RE March 2011 has been won by two Reception teachers who are both working in Wales.
Rachel Davey from Baden Powell Primary School, Cardiff and Rachel Speed from St. Illtyd’s Primary School, Blaenau Gwent were delighted with their £50 prize vouchers to spend on Books @ Press resources. They were presented with their winners’ certificates at the Welsh Association of SACREs Celebrating RE Launch on March 2nd, 2011 in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan.
Rachel Davey had submitted her fantastic work on visiting the local church with Reception children. The follow-
Rachel Speed’s work was also with Reception children and focussed on New Life and Easter. The judges were particularly impressed with the way in which the children were encouraged to explore and reflect on the wonder of new life and make the connection between pictures and symbols and the significance of the Easter events for Christians.

The judges unanimously agreed that the quality of work from both teachers was outstanding and illustrated how even some of our youngest pupils can engage effectively in explicit religious education and make meaningful connections between their own life experiences and that which is important to members of a faith.
Congratulations go to both winners on their excellent achievements.
